Shilpa Gupta Skirts Material —Tanya Bonakdar Gallery
In his latest review, artist, and guest writer for the Bader + Simon Blog, Clyde Nichols shares his journey through Gupta's exhibit, exploring the artist's unique approach to challenging societal norms. From the evocative bronze sculpture, "A Liquid, The Mouth Froze," to the immersive installation, "Listening Air," Nichols captures the essence of Gupta's work—where conceptual brilliance intertwines with sensory exploration.
As he ventures to the second floor, Nichols grapples with the disconnect between material and concept, offering a nuanced perspective on the role of physical fine art objects in an ever-evolving digital landscape.
The Genesis of Bader + Simon
Tamara White, the founder of Bader + Simon, has combined her passion for art with her experience in an art advisory group and the Boros Collection to curate a collection that tackles incarceration and social justice issues. The gallery, housed in a beautifully restored 1880 building, features two galleries, a catering kitchen, and event space for private functions. The board members, who have backgrounds in art history, museum studies, and communication, are integral to the gallery's upcoming exhibits and programming.
